Fine Lines, Wrinkles and Loss of Firmness

Lines from movement, lines from collagen loss, and skin that has simply lost its structure are three different concerns — and only one of them responds to resurfacing.

The Concern

Three different problems that look alike.

Patients usually arrive asking about wrinkles as though they were one thing. Clinically they are not, and the distinction determines whether a treatment will work at all.

Dynamic lines appear when you move — they follow expression and are driven by muscle. Static lines are visible at rest and reflect genuine collagen and elastin loss in the skin itself. Laxity is different again: the skin and the structure beneath it have lost firmness, so the issue is support rather than surface.

Resurfacing improves static lines and texture. It does very little for laxity, and it is the wrong tool for dynamic lines entirely. An honest assessment tells you which of the three you actually have, and it is frequently a combination.

Why It Happens

What changes underneath.

01

Collagen and elastin decline

Production falls steadily from the late twenties. Skin loses the scaffolding that keeps it firm, and fine lines become visible at rest rather than only on movement.

02

Cumulative sun exposure

Ultraviolet exposure degrades existing collagen and is the single largest external contributor — which is why sun protection is a treatment, not an afterthought.

03

Repeated expression

Years of the same movements etch lines into skin that has lost the elasticity to spring back the way it once did.

Your Options

What we may recommend

Which route suits you depends on whether we are addressing surface texture, genuine collagen loss, or structural laxity. Most plans address more than one.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

What patients usually ask before their first visit.

Which treatment is best for wrinkles?

There is no single answer, and that is not evasion. Dynamic lines, static lines and laxity respond to different things, so the assessment decides. A clinic that names one treatment for every wrinkle is selling a device, not a plan.

Am I too young to start?

Collagen production declines well before lines become obvious, so prevention is reasonable. That said, we would rather tell you that sun protection and a sensible routine are enough for now than sell you a treatment you do not need.

Will results look natural?

The routes offered here work by stimulating your own collagen, so change is gradual rather than sudden. That is generally what patients mean by natural.

How long do results last?

It varies with the route, your skin and your sun exposure. Your clinician will give you an honest range at consultation rather than a number in an advertisement.

Is there downtime?

It depends on the route. Some have essentially none, while collagen-induction approaches involve a short settling period. This is covered before you commit.

Does sun protection really change the outcome?

Yes. Ultraviolet exposure degrades collagen faster than most treatments can rebuild it, so daily protection is part of the plan rather than an optional extra.
